About Us
St. Louis Chinese Academy is a non-profit educational institution with main objectives of teaching Chinese language, promoting Chinese culture and providing related services to the general public. The school is open to anyone interested in learning Chinese language and culture, regardless of age, race, sex, religion, and national origins.
The school is operated by unpaid board members selected from the parents of students, and among them one is elected as the chairperson. The principal of St. Louis Chinese Academy is appointed by the school board and the supporting staff members are selected by the principal.
Currently, the school is held on Sunday afternoons between August and May. The program consists of two types of classes - language and extracurricular activities. The language class is taught in two different ways - one using Mandarin for those who are familiar with Mandarin and the other one using English for those who do not have a Mandarin background.
The language classes are conducted between 1:30PM and 3:20PM. The extracurricular classes are conducted between 3:30PM and 4:20PM and offer a variety of culturally-related activities such as folk dances, chess, arts and crafts, Chinese Kung Fu, natural sciences, and Chinese calligraphy.
聖路易中華語文學校成立於一九七八年七月八日，是聖路易市第一所中文學校，學校的宗旨為提供海外華人子女中文教育的場所及環境。本校每週日下午上課三小時，教授中華文化及中文。
首創之初，全校只有三個班級，每班學生人數不超過十名。歷經各任校長苦心經營，學校現有十餘班學生。教學內容除了原有的中文課程外，還增添漢語拼音的教學。學生成員也由純華人子女擴展到說英語的人士。語言班別配合需要，分為華語班及國際班。
除了語言課程外，聖路易中華語文學校也提供了各項課外活動。活動內容包羅頗廣，現在及過去開出的課程包括民族舞蹈，中國功夫，中文會話，網路設計，美術勞作，民俗體育扯鈴，笛子，棋藝，書法，布袋戲，民俗説書及自然科學等。學校並定期舉辦學生才藝競賽，包括演講，作文，說故事，詩詞背誦，閱讀等。此外，本校積極參與聖路易社區活動，例如：救災，募款，文化表演等活動。
在家長活動方面，中華語文學校舉辦各項專業講座，烤肉活動，健美運動，瑜珈，歌唱，放映電影及提供書報雜誌供家長們閱讀等。本校也主辦或協辦中華文化夏令營，海外教師研習會，及美中西區學術研討會等研習活動。
聖路易中華語文學校的學校組織在這些年來不斷加強，自從一九八一年起組織了校董會後，目前董事成員已增至九人，分別負責招生，註冊，財務，預算，活動，公關等事宜，並協助學校教務之發展。校董會定期召開家長會，演講活動及聯誼活動。
